SANIDERM AFTERCARE INSTRUCTIONS

The Saniderm that was placed over your freshly completed tattoo needs to be removed and replaced within 12 to 24 hours of you leaving the studio.

  • For your comfort as well as to avoid making a mess, it is best to remove either in the shower or in the sink if you can manage that based on size, placement on the body, and your comfort level

  • Peel “like a banana” from the top down, pulling away from the skin allowing the water to help loosen the adhesive

  • Once the Saniderm is removed, wash your tattoo with antibacterial hand soap (liquid Dial or Softsoap). Pat dry with a clean paper towel

DO NOT APPLY ANY OINTMENT, LOTION, OR OTHER PRODUCTS TO YOUR TATTOO, AND MAKE SURE TO CLEAN OFF ANY REMANING BLOOD/PLASMA THAT MAY BE WEEPING FROM YOUR TATTOO BEFORE APPLYING THE NEW SANIDERM

Apply the new Saniderm, and leave it on for a minimum of 3 days up to 5 days from this point.

  • Make sure to leave at least a finger-width gap between the edge or your tattoo to the edge of your Saniderm

  • Round the edges of the Saniderm with scissors prior to applying to your skin. This helps prevent it from catching a peeling up if theres a sharp corner to it.

  • Bubbles in the middle of the Saniderm are not going to harm anything, but make sure not to have folded creases that run to the edge that would allow an open air channel into your tattoo

When you remove the Saniderm after the 3 to 5 day period, use a fragrance-free color-free hand lotion (Lubriderm or Curel but nothing colorful or fruit/ floral/etc scented) as needed for the remainder of the peeling (if any)

* Please reach out with any questions or concerns. You are never a bother, and the only dumb question is the one that you don’t ask.

OINTMENT AFTERCARE INSTRUCTIONS

Upon leaving the studio, you may have a bandage/wrap on your tattoo. This needs to be removed ASAP in a clean environment and begin your aftercare. Do not leave the bandage on for more than a couple of hours. You do not need to cover your tattoo again.

• Wash your tattoo with antibacterial hand soap (liquid Dial or Softsoap). Pat dry with a clean paper towel.

• Apply a thin layer of ointment, such as Aquaphor or A&D ointment.

DO NOT USE NEOSPORIN OR VASELINE

If the layer of ointment looks thick, wet, or gooey, you used too much. Blot with a clean paper towel to remove the excess.

• Repeat the ointment process for the first 3 to 4 days.

• You need to wash your tattoo in the morning, before bed, and a couple of times during the day as needed making sure to reapply your ointment.

After 3 to 4 days, the soreness and inflammation will subside, and you can stop using ointment and switch over to fragrance-free color-free hand lotion (Lubriderm or Curel but nothing colorful or fruit/ floral/etc scented).

You can cut down to washing the tattoo to morning and night or if you feel it is needed based on your work/activity. Continue this for the remainder of the healing period which is typically 10 days to 2 weeks from the day you first got your tattoo.

* Flaking/peeling and itching is normal. Scabbing is also a possibility. DO NOT PICK OR SCRATCH OR TRY TO HELP IT ALONG

* Over-applying ointment promotes scabbing as well as letting it dry out for too long.

Try to follow the guidelines as close as possible, but don’t go overboard and don’t be negligent.

* Please reach out with any questions or concerns. You are never a bother, and the only dumb question is the one that you don’t ask.
